After Verizon and T-Mobile’s recent goofup saying that their updates for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were introducing Daydream support when they actually weren’t, Google is now officially saying that an update with Daydream support is rolling out to Samsung’s latest flagships. This can be taken as the final word that Daydream support is actually arriving, unless Google is just saying so because of Verizon and T-Mobile’s recent fluke.
Google’s official Daydream website still says Daydream support for the S8 and S8+ is “coming soon”, so it will take some time before the update arrives on your handset (which is a given for any update, Daydream or not). Of course, with Samsung’s Gear VR being the more robust virtual reality option, many of you probably aren’t too interested in Daydream. But it’s always great to have alternatives, especially with Google Daydream costing around $50 less than the latest Gear VR and no doubt a huge focus for developers given the Daydream VR platform is a feature supported by Android in general.
Update: It seems Daydream support for the S8 and S8+ really is here, as all of the Daydream apps are now available for installation from the Play Store. The primary Daydream app also works, although we do not have a Daydream headset in our possession and are unable to check it out.
