Galaxy J1 (2016) now receiving November security update

Samsung has started rolling out this month’s security update for the Galaxy J1 (2016), following its release for the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) earlier today. The upgrade, according to the firm, bundles patches for 61 vulnerabilities in the open-source Android operating system and six for its own modified software, as well as a fix for the KRACK Wi-Fi exploit.

We have to say, it’s a little strange that Samsung has released the latest security update for the Galaxy J1, Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) before the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8, the latter of which was treated to last month’s upgrade in India earlier today. But rest assured: it’s on the way to the flagships—and could start making the rounds as soon as later today.

Here’s how to check to see if the update’s ready for your Galaxy J1 (2016)

To check to see if the release is ready for your Galaxy J1 (2016), open Settings, select Software Update, then tap Download Updates Manually. If you don’t, however, feel like heading down that route, you can always wait until you receive an alert instructing you to install the OTA. There’s a chance it could take a little longer to arrive, though.
