Samsung’s component business has proven to be a cash cow for the conglomerate. It has manufacturing deals with major companies like Qualcomm to mass produce their chips. Samsung is already producing the Snapdragon 835 for Qualcomm on its 10nm process. The company has now announced that it’s going to be mass producing the industry’s first 10nm server processor for Qualcomm.
Qualcomm announced the “world’s first and only” 10nm server processor series today called Centriq 2400. It’s claimed to be the first high-performance ARM-based processor that’s designed for cloud workloads in data centers.
Samsung and Qualcomm
“Samsung and Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies have expanded a decadelong strategic foundry collaboration to manufacture the Qualcomm Centriq 2400, the world’s first server processor built on industry’s first 10 nanometer FinFET process technology,” said ES Jung, president and general manager of Samsung’s foundry business.
Qualcomm continues to increase its reliance on Samsung’s foundry business. Samsung’s chip manufacturing division has made significant advancements in the 14nm and 10nm production technologies and that’s paying dividends for the company now.
Samsung’s advanced 10nm process technology with specific optimizations for high performance coupled with Qualcomm’s SoC design will deliver a truly advanced server processor for the data center market.
Samsung is going to start mass production of Qualcomm’s new server processor soon.
