Premium TV shipments will surge in 2018 with Samsung in the lead

Industry data shows that the global market for premium TVs sized 75-inches and larger is going to increase sharply in 2018. Samsung is expected to lead the surge which means that its bet on large premium televisions is going to pay dividends for the company.

Industry tracker IHS Markit has compiled data which shows that the global sales of premium TVs sized 75-inches and larger is going to hit 1.69 million units in 2018. This means that shipments will sharply rise from the 1.15 million units estimated for 2017.

Leading premium TV shipments in 2018

The demand for big premium TVs is not likely going to peak this year. It’s expected to surge in the coming years as well, possibly reaching over 3.3 million units in 2020. Samsung has been focusing on big premium TVs and its strategy seems to be effective.

It’s estimated to have sold 151,800 units of TVs 75-inches and larger in the third quarter of 2017. Large premium TVs have accounted for 8.1 percent of Samsung’s combined TV sales in Q3 2017. That’s up from 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2017. Sony managed to sell 79,700 units while LG was only able to move 34,900 units according to the data compiled by IHS Markit.

Samsung is going to unveil new premium TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018. It won’t be surprising if we see new large premium models from the company next week.
