Android updates are a messy affair. Buggy builds, delayed updates, carrier modifications, lack of security patches, etc. are all too common for many Android users. Even a major global brand like Samsung with millions of units in sales and billions of dollars in revenue offers a less than satisfactory experience when it comes to Android updates for its smartphones and tablets. Not just the budget devices, but even the flagship smartphones from Samsung leave a lot of fans disappointed on this issue.
Late to the party
Case in point is the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. After months of beta testing, Samsung started rolling out the Oreo update to the Galaxy S8 duo in February. However, as with any other Android update, it was not available to all the Galaxy S8 and S8+ users around the world at once. Since then, the company has been pushing out the update to users in different regions and on different carriers around the world. Today, it’s the turn of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ users on US Cellular to receive the update.
The four major US operators – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile – have already released the Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ on their networks in the last couple of months. US Cellular is late to the party as it has been more than two months since the Oreo update started rolling out to the Galaxy S8/S8+. It’s now rolling out firmware version G950USQU3CRD4 and G955USQU3CRD4 for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ on its network.
As usual, the update will be rolling out in stages and may not be available to all the eligible devices at once. If your US Cellular variant of the Galaxy S8 or S8+ hasn’t received the over-the-air software update notification yet, you can try to manually trigger the update from the Software update menu in the Settings app. The update brings a long list of functional and UI changes that we have discussed in detail in our What’s New with Android 8.0 Oreo series.
