It was first rumored a couple of months ago that Samsung might bring its next smartwatch under the Galaxy umbrella. The company’s upcoming smartwatch is currently referred to as the Gear S4. It seems that this may very well be the case as a logo registration for the Samsung Galaxy Watch has been spotted.
The company has registered the Samsung Galaxy Watch logo in its home country of South Korea. It filed the necessary paperwork with the Korean Intellectual Property Office last month. Samsung has already filed for protection of the Samsung Galaxy Watch and even the Samsung Galaxy Fit brand names in the United States.

Some rumors have suggested that Samsung’s next smartwatch may actually be powered by Wear OS, Google’s wearable device platform. That doesn’t appear to be the case at this point in time. The switch to the Galaxy branding might give the impression that it may be an Android-powered device but it’s highly likely that Samsung will retain the Tizen OS for this smartwatch.
Reports suggest that the new smartwatch is going to have an updated design and a larger battery. It may even be capable of measuring the user’s blood pressure if recent rumors are believed. No word as yet on when Samsung is planning to launch the device.
Samsung has scheduled an event on August 9 for the Galaxy Note 9 but it seems unlikely that it will unveil the Gear S4/Galaxy Watch there. We may have to wait for it until September since the IFA 2018 convention in Berlin may be the venue of choice for the smartwatch’s unveiling.
