Xfinity Stream App comes to Samsung Smart TVs in beta

Samsung is a major player in the Android ecosystem and uses the Android OS to power its smartphones and tablets. For its Smart TVs and other appliances, however, the company relies on its homegrown Tizen OS. Using Tizen OS offers Samsung the flexibility to integrate its hardware and software better, but it comes at the cost of losing access to an extensive library of apps available on Android.

The company has done reasonably well to get popular third-party apps on its Tizen-powered Smart TVs. One more app is joining the list as Comcast has launched a beta version of the Xfinity Stream App for Samsung Smart TVs. The app allows Xfinity TV customers to access their cable subscription without a set-top box.

Compatible with Samsung’s 2017 and 2018 Smart TVs

Using the app, customers can watch live TV, on-demand content, and DVR programming on their Samsung Smart TVs via the internet. It offers Xfinity users more flexibility in accessing their cable subscription. The app also features a visually-rich program guide and personalized recommendations to make accessing the content you love easier.

The press release says the app is already available for download under the Smart Hub section on Samsung’s 2017 and 2018 Smart TVs. Availability can also vary depending on the region in the United States. Since the app is still in beta, it may be buggy and not fully polished. Comcast intends to use the beta version to test and improve the app for a more refined experience.
