Samsung is slowly but surely rolling out the October patch for supported devices. The Galaxy J7 (2016) and Galaxy J7 Prime are the two handsets that have received the update today. Samsung has rolled out the firmware update in India so far. The rollout started with the Galaxy Note 9 earlier this month and has since been expanded to mid-range devices.
October patch for Galaxy J7 (2016) and Galaxy J7 Prime
Firmware version J710FNDDU1BRJ1 brings the October patch for the Galaxy J7 (2017) in India. It’s rolling out now and is also available for download from our firmware section. The Galaxy J7 Prime has received firmware version G610FDDU1CRJ4. It’s also available for download from our database.
Samsung has already released the update for the Galaxy J5 Prime. That device got it alongside the Galaxy A6+, Galaxy J4 and the Galaxy J7 Duo. Today’s updates have only been released in India so far. These devices are available in other markets as well so it’s only a matter of time before Samsung makes the update available there as well.
There are fixes for dozens of Android OS vulnerabilities included in the October patch. It also brings fixes for a few vulnerabilities that were discovered in Samsung’s software. Samsung is doing a good job of keeping up the pace for these updates so far. One can hope that it will continue to do so going forward.
