Those on the Galaxy Note 9 Android Pie beta program are already enjoying both the new One UI features and the security that the December 2018 security patch provides. Those still on Oreo have to wait a while for Android Pie, but the latest security patch is now available in a number of countries around the world. We first saw the Galaxy Note 9 December update released in Hong Kong, and it’s now rolling out to Switzerland, the Nordic countries, Afghanistan, South Africa and a few other markets.
Galaxy Note 9 December patch out in more markets
The new update comes with software version N960FXXS2ARL3 for some and N960FXXS2ARL4 for others. The contents remain the same, though. You get the December security patch, which fixes some serious vulnerabilities that affect Samsung’s software. One of those vulnerabilities could grant someone access to your gallery files inside Secure Folder without needing your authentication, and when something like Secure Folder loses its security, you know there’s a serious risk. So the December update is quite important, and Samsung is moving quickly with bringing it to various devices in its lineup.
The December 2018 security patch update has also been released for the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, and the Galaxy Tab S4 in various markets. Galaxy Note 9 owners can download it from the Software update menu of the Settings app. Just tap the Download updates manually option in there to start downloading the update. It may not be available for everyone right away, so make sure to check again a few hours later. We’ll update this post when the new firmware hits our firmware database.
