You can now use Google Duplex on the Galaxy S10

Google Duplex — an AI-driven robot, who can call facilities like restaurants to make reservations on your behalf — has begun its much-anticipated rollout for non-Pixel-branded handsets in the United States, starting with the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, according to XDA-Developers.

The feature first launched alongside the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL in October 2018, when it was restricted to just four cites in four different states in the United States. Now, six months later, it’s still only available in the region — but has expanded to a total of 43 more states.

Google Duplex is one of the most interesting developments to come out of Google’s Mountain View HQ in a while, letting users instruct Google Assistant to contact a restaurant, among several other local businesses, and make a reservation on their behalf for their desired date and time.

Duplex retrieves the contact number from Google Search, then uses AI to have a real-time conversation with the establishment’s receptionist, as showcased in the video below. It’s all a bit eerie, with the lady on the other end of the line being none the wiser to the fact she’s speaking to a robot.

But that’s the future, right? Soon enough there will be a robot on both ends of the line.
