The Galaxy Note 10 series takes advantage of new DeX features that allow users to connect the flagship to a PC and easily transfer files between the different platforms. Now, according to a new rumor passed along via Twitter, the same DeX functionalities will eventually be made available for the Galaxy S9 and newer flagships.
Reportedly, the updated DeX features will be launched on the Galaxy S9 and newer flagship models along with the Android Q update. We’ve exclusively revealed last month that Android Q will mark the release of One UI 2.0 for Samsung, and this will happen prior to One UI 2.1 being released along with the Galaxy S11 next year.
Other Galaxy Note 10 features could launch for older flagships with One UI 2.0
Samsung’s strategy to update older flagships with newer features is not new. And if this rumor turns out to be true then the updated DeX might not be the only Galaxy Note 10-specific feature that will eventually make its way onto older devices like the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S9 series. That is, as long as the hardware supports said features. Things like AR Doodle which are more dependent on the S Pen and ToF camera might not make it onto the Galaxy S9 series, but others could.
These types of retrograde feature updates usually happen when major software versions are being released, so we’ll likely have to wait until Android Q and One UI 2.0 arrives. Case in point, the Galaxy S9 got the ability to run DeX directly through a USB connection — introduced on the Galaxy Note 9 — without requiring the special dock when it got Android 9 Pie.
