Samsung has slashed the price of the Galaxy A80 in India to Rs. 39,990 (~$563) in time for the festive season. The premium midranger went on sale in the country on August 1 with a price tag of Rs. 47,990 (~$675), placing it well above the flagships from OnePlus, Asus, and others at the time of its launch. Even with the price cut, the Galaxy A80 may be a tough sell in the fiercely-competitive Indian smartphone market.
The Galaxy A80 is already listed at the reduced price on online marketplaces such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Paytm Mall. Offline retailers have also confirmed the price cut to local media outlets. Samsung India, however, hasn’t made any official comment so far. Given that the device is listed at the new price across online and offline retailers, it indeed appears to be a price cut by the company.
To recall, the Galaxy A80 comes with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED notch-less New Infinity Display, Snapdragon 730G SoC, 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, 3,700mAh battery, 25W fast charging, and Android Pie onboard. Its main USP, however, is the triple camera module on the back that can slide and rotate to double up as a selfie shooter.
We were not impressed with the Galaxy A80 in our review, mainly due to its complicated camera slider and the Sound on Display technology. The price cut doesn’t change any of that. On the contrary, it makes early adopters of the Galaxy A80 feel short-changed to see their device price drop in less than three months after its launch.
