Samsung has quietly listed the Galaxy Tab A Kids Edition (2019) on its US website. As the name suggests, this is a tablet aimed at kids, but the device itself is not exactly new. It’s basically a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) with a bumper case. The rest of the things, including the SM-T290 model number, remain unchanged from the regular tab.
Being a tablet for kids, it offers granular controls for parents to monitor screen time and access to content. The tab comes with a free trial of the Samsung Kids app that boasts 10,000+ hours of kid-friendly content. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store on other Galaxy tablets as well, so the only real distinction between the Kids Edition and the regular Tab A is the addition of the bumper case to the former for extra protection from bumps and drops.
As far as the specs are concerned, it comes with an 8-inch 1280 x 800 TFT display with 1280 x 800 resolution, Snapdragon 429 chipset, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, MicroSD slot, 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front camera, and a 5,100mAh battery. It runs Android Pie with Samsung’s One UI on top.
The Galaxy Tab A Kids Edition (2019) is priced at $149.99 for the Wi-Fi only variant with no trace of any LTE option. The bumper case comes in four different color options, but the tablet itself is available only in silver. The device is already available for purchase on Samsung’s online store in the US.
