Samsung has started rolling out the October 2019 security update to the Galaxy S10 5G. The update is currently available only in Switzerland, but you can expect that to change soon. Unlike the Note 10 5G variants, the S10 5G is an entirely different device from the rest of the S10 lineup, so there is no guarantee the same update will be available for the other S10 models immediately.
Samsung hasn’t published the October 2019 security bulletin so far for us to know what vulnerabilities are patched through this release. Typically, these updates include security fixes from both Google and Samsung, with the latter being specific to Galaxy devices.
We also don’t know if this update brings any new features to the flagship device. With the September patch, Samsung brought many of the Galaxy Note 10 features such as Link to Windows, AR Doodle, Live focus video, Night mode for the front camera, DeX for PC, Dynamic Lock screen, etc. to the S10 series. If there are markets where the Galaxy S10 didn’t get the September update, the October patch may include these features.
Given that the Galaxy S10 5G is not released in all the markets, the rollout should be relatively quick. To check if the update is available to your device, go to Settings, select Software Update, and tap on the Download updates manually option. If that doesn’t trigger the update, you have to either wait or download the latest Galaxy S10 5G firmware from our database and manually flash it.
