The unlocked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are receiving a new software update in the US and are making the jump to the latest Android security patch in the process. This is the second update Samsung has released for the unlocked S8 and S8+ this month. The previous update included the October security patch and, therefore, didn’t bring a fix for a critical vulnerability that affected the 2017 flagship.
The vulnerability in question wasn’t just discovered in the Galaxy S8, but it was one of three Galaxy phones included in the list of affected devices when the vulnerability was publicly revealed. Google’s fix for the vulnerability came as part of the October security patch, but Samsung is releasing it through the November update for all of its devices. The November patch should also plug a vulnerability in Samsung’s Camera app that can allow malicious apps to record photos and videos without the user’s content.
As always, there are multiple ways you can grab the latest update. You can download it over the air straight to your Galaxy S8 and S8+ from the Software update menu of the phone’s Settings app, or you can upgrade by downloading the latest firmware from our firmware archive and flashing it on your S8 or S8+ using a Windows PC. The software version for the new update is G95*U1UES7DSK4.
