Despite the current lack of global market stability, Samsung reportedly isn’t budging on its plans for the Galaxy Note 20 and continues to make preparations for an August launch.
What’s more, it appears the company intends to pair the flagship’s unveiling with the official debut of the Galaxy Fold 2, yet another addition to its nascent portfolio of foldable handsets.
Global pandemic not enough to delay the next Galaxy Unpacked
Samsung’s already been feeling the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, particularly in regards to the disappointing start of the Galaxy S20 line. Whether the weaker-than-expected sales of the tech giant’s latest premium range affected its plans for the Galaxy Note 20 is unclear, but insiders quoted by a new report out of Korea are confident there won’t be any launch delays, at least as things stand right now.
That isn’t to say Samsung is certain its second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year will be a physical manifestation. Quite the contrary, the company’s already preparing for a worst-case scenario wherein the global pandemic maintains its momentum in the second half of the year, forcing it to launch its next ultra-premium smartphones in an online-only setting, as per the same sources.
Another factor that may have to be taken into account is how the current coronavirus outbreak wave will affect Samsung’s supply chain, particularly its core production lines in Vietnam. With the Far Eastern country entering a national lockdown on April 1 until further notice, Samsung may be forced to postpone the actual release of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 even if their August announcements remain on schedule. Some recent industry rumors suggest the company may even unveil the upcoming devices in July, but those claims have yet to be substantiated in any meaningful way.
