Galaxy S20 series ships 32.6% below S10 in Q1, Galaxy S20+ leads 5G

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 shipment figures throughout Q1 2020 were down 32.6% compared to the Galaxy S10 series last year, according to The Elec citing market research firm Omdia. By the end of the first quarter, the company shipped 8.2 million Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra units combined, with the Galaxy S20+ registering 3.5 million shipments.

The latter variant was the 9th most shipped smartphone model in Q1, and was surpassed by a couple of Samsung devices, namely the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A10s.

The Galaxy A51 was Samsung’s hero smartphone

In terms of shipments, the Galaxy A51 was the second-most successful smartphone in Q1 globally, having been surpassed only by the iPhone 11. Samsung managed to ship around 6.8 million Galaxy A51 units. Meanwhile, the company pushed 3.9 million Galaxy A10s units onto the global market.

It’s worth highlighting the fact that both the Galaxy A10s and Galaxy A51 had a full quarter in the market, whereas the Galaxy S20 series was technically released in March. Then again, demand for the Galaxy S20 lineup wasn’t nearly as high as it was for the Galaxy S10 series last year. In part, this is attributed to the global smartphone market slowing down considerably due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fortunately for Samsung and its latest flagship smartphone series, the Galaxy S20+ 5G had higher shipment figures in Q1 over any other 5G smartphone on the market. It was closely followed by the Huawei Mate 30 5G and Mate 30 Pro 5G on the second and third places, respectively.
