Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ as productivity champs

We knew tablets were on the agenda for Samsung’s virtual Unpacked event today and they’re now official, not like the leaks leading up to the launch left anything to the imagination. Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ tablets have now been unveiled.

Samsung has elected to launch two variants of its flagship tablet this year. There are some significant differences between both models. That’s only going to make it easier for customers to pick the one that suits the needs the most. In a nutshell, the Galaxy Tab S7 is better suited for the casual user while the Galaxy Tab S7+ is for those who need all-out performance.

Galaxy Tab S7+ specs

Samsung’s flagship tablet series finally offers a larger model. The Galaxy Tab S7+ features a 12.4-inch 2800×1752 pixel resolution 16:10 aspect ratio Super AMOLED display. Samsung has also bumped up the refresh rate to 120Hz for the kind of buttery smoothness we’ve come to love on our Galaxy S20s. An in-display fingerprint sensor is also present. The display has led to an increase in the device’s footprint, however, it’s still just as thin as the Galaxy Tab S6 at 5.7mm.

You’ll find Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865+ chipset under the hood paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on the base model. An 8GB + 256GB configuration will also be available with microSD expansion of up to 1TB. Samsung is going to offer the tablet in both Wi-Fi only and 5G variants, the latter obviously only being made available in markets where 5G networks are live.

The dual camera setup at the back remains unchanged with a 13-megapixel primary and a 5-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. There’s an 8-megapixel front camera that’s now placed on the right bezel instead of the top. This minor change has been made to improve the video calling experience. There are AKG-tuned quad speakers that provide stereo sound and a USB Type-C port but don’t keep your fingers crossed for a 3.5mm headphone jack.

A chunky 10,090mAh battery is keeping the lights on with support for 45W super fast charging. However, Samsung is only going to provide a 15W charger in the box so you’ll have to purchase your own for super fast charging separately.

Galaxy Tab S7 specs

Samsung has made the surprising decision of not equipping the Galaxy Tab S7 with an AMOLED display. Yes, you read that right, the Galaxy Tab S7 has an 11-inch LCD display but if it’s any consolation, it also gets the 120Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy Tab S7 does share most of its core specs with the + model. Both have the same chipset, memory and storage configurations, cameras, speakers and 5G compatibility. It doesn’t have the in-display fingerprint sensor, though, you’ll need to place your finger on the tablet’s side key to biometrically unlock the device. It also gets a smaller 8,000mAh battery with 45W charging.

Design and features

Samsung’s latest tablets have a familiar design. There’s metal all around while the brushed metal sides add a more premium look to the device. The S Pen attaches magnetically to the groove at the back that now sits flush with the camera housing. The bezels around the display have been trimmed as well.

An improved S Pen ships with the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+. Samsung has reduced its latency so that users get a more pen-to-paper feel when drawing or writing with the stylus. Air actions have been improved with support for additional actions. The Samsung Notes app has been overhauled with new functionality to aid productivity.

Samsung has also added wireless DeX which enables users to wirelessly access DeX’s PC-like experience on compatible Samsung TVs and Miracast-enabled screens. DeX also gets a newly designed taskbar, keyboard shortcuts when using the separately sold keyboard accessory and adjustable display setting.

The Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ run on Android 10 with One UI 2.5. The latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android skin brings a variety of new features, including but not limited to Single Take, Music Share, Quick Share and more.

Price and availability

Prices for the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ start at 699 and 899 euro for the Wi-Fi as well as 799 and 1099 euro for the 5G variants respectively. They’re going to be available in Mystic Silver and Mystic Bronze colors. Availability is going to vary by market.
