Samsung amazingly isn’t done with Galaxy Tab S2 security updates

It would appear Samsung isn’t done with updating the Galaxy Tab S2, or whatever you have left of that tablet five years and two months following its release. Over the last several days, select variants of the said tablet began receiving a new Android security patch level dated October 1st, 2020. So, not the very latest one, but given how this thing released back when Spain was still the football world champion and Obama was in the White House, this really isn’t that big of a deal.

Identified by software version NRD90M.T818VVRS4BTJK, the unexpected security update for the Galaxy Tab S2 is reportedly already available to Verizon customers in the United States, as well as parts of South America. Only the 9.7-inch variant of the tablet has been confirmed as receiving this over-the-air release so far and it remains to be seen if and when the smaller Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 follows suit.

Just another reminder of Samsung’s industry-leading security practices

No other changes are understandably part of this over-the-air release, with the Galaxy Tab S2 still running the old Samsung Experience based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Expect this OTA version to soon show up in our firmware archives, just in case you want to manually flash it onto your device.

Overall, this is just yet another reminder of how much ahead Samsung truly is when it comes to conscientious mobile security practices. This whole year is, actually, given how it’s barely been a few months since the company made a historic commitment to deliver at least three generations’ worth of major Android OS upgrades to all of its future devices and my of its existing ones.
