The Galaxy S20 series sales were a bit disappointing, and the COVID-19 pandemic added to Samsung’s woes last year. With the Galaxy S21, Samsung is expecting better sales this year. It is now being reported that the pre-orders for the company’s latest high-end phones are higher than the Galaxy S20.
According to a report coming out of South Korea, pre-orders of the Galaxy S21 series is around 15-20% higher than the Galaxy S20 series in South Korea. Industry officials have mentioned that demand for unlocked Galaxy S21 devices has tripled compared to the Galaxy S20. However, the pre-orders with the local mobile carriers haven’t increased compared to last year.
Last year, pre-orders for unlocked devices accounted for 10% of all pre-orders. This year, pre-orders for unlocked Galaxy S21 smartphones accounted for 30% of all pre-orders in South Korea. To woo more crowd, Samsung added more attractive color options this year, reduced the starting price for the Galaxy S21 series, and added custom color options.
Samsung is offering free Galaxy Buds series truly wireless earphones and the Galaxy SmartTag with Galaxy S21 pre-orders. Counterpoint Research estimates that sales of the Galaxy S21 series would be higher than the Galaxy S20 series, but it still won’t reach the popularity of the Galaxy S10 series.
