The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has already boarded the February 2021 security update train, having just started receiving the latest OTA patch from Samsung. Identified by release version G780FXXS2BUA5, the new firmware appeared just as Samsung published its monthly security bulletin detailing the contents of the said Android installation targeting the entirety of its modern mobile portfolio.
Compared to recent months, the patch level dated February 1st, 2021, places a much larger emphasis on tackling some man-in-the-middle attack vulnerabilities that Google’s OS accumulated in recent times.
How quickly is this rollout progressing?
The final Galaxy flagship of 2020 is still among the earliest devices that joined the ongoing deployment. Over the last handful of days, Samsung already started pushing out the same firmware upgrade to the two Galaxy Note 20 models, the Galaxy S20 range, and a three-year-old budget device (with some exemplary name recognition, to be frank).
Galaxy S20 FE owners eager to get their hands on the February 2021 security update can try speeding things up by manually checking whether the download is available before their devices identify it on their own. Doing so is as straightforward as opening the Settings app, tapping the Software update option near the bottom of its main menu, and then using the Download and install instruction. Assuming, naturally, that the penultimate step doesn’t already leave them with a confirmation that a new OTA package is ready for download.
Meanwhile, the most dedicated and experienced Galaxy S20 FE owners out there can also independently flash the new software onto their flagships. Our firmware archives already have a handful of complete system images containing the February 2021 security patch for the Galaxy S20 FE. Granted, that very fact already suggests the rest of the deployment will conclude in a timely manner.
