Galaxy S22+ might bring a serious battery downgrade

The Galaxy S21 lineup is very well equipped when it comes to batteries. The base Galaxy S21’s 4,000 mAh battery might not be anything special, but the 4,800 mAh and 5,000 mAh batteries on the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra do a great job at providing dependable battery life even with all fancy features (like 120Hz refresh rate) enabled.

But it seems Samsung may not be able to stick the same batteries in the Galaxy S22 series next year, or at least in the Galaxy S22+. According to our friends over at GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S22+ will feature a battery with a typical capacity of 4,500 mAh and a rated capacity of 4,370 mAh.

If this information turns out to be accurate, it would mean the Galaxy S22+ will have the same battery capacity as the Galaxy S20+. Will the other models get a similar downgrade? That remains to be seen, though a rumor from earlier this week suggested that we could see a 5,000 mAh cell on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, similar to the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Of course, a smaller battery doesn’t necessarily have to mean poorer endurance. Advancements in the latest silicon and Samsung’s display technology could help make up for the reduction in battery size. Still, you can’t beat physics when it comes to battery capacity, so this is certainly a worrying bit of detail about Samsung’s next flagship lineup.
