Samsung Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2016) pricing for the UK confirmed

Two months ago Samsung launched the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2016), sequels to its Galaxy A series, and the handsets were released only in China initially but it was confirmed that they will be released in other markets as well gradually. The new Galaxy A handsets provide a respectable package of powerful hardware, premium features like a fingerprint sensor and optical image stabilization as well as a glass and metal build that lends an overall premium look and feel to the handsets. Interested folks based in the United Kingdom will now be delighted to know that the pricing of these handsets for their country has finally been confirmed.

The Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2016) can now be pre-ordered at retailer MobileFun in the United Kingdom, prices start at £269 for the Galaxy A3 (2016), £319 for the Galaxy A5 (2016) and £399 for the Galaxy A7 (2016). These prices are for SIM-free and unlocked units, they’re obviously not carrier-subsidized handsets, so customers will need to pay upfront to get any one of the new Galaxy A series handsets.

Samsung appears to have fixed the Galaxy Note 5′s S Pen issue discreetly

There’s only one correct way to insert the S Pen back into the Galaxy Note 5 but soon after the handset was launched last year it was discovered that inserting it the other way around ended up damaging the pen detection feature of the Galaxy Note 5. It was the first time that a Note series handset featured Samsung’s patented push-to-eject mechanism for retrieving the S Pen.

Samsung first came up with a simple and very obvious solution to this problem, it recommended that users follow the instructions included with the Galaxy Note 5 to ensure that they don’t reinsert the S Pen the other way around. That didn’t help much though so it started shipping new units of the Galaxy Note 5 with a warning label that explained the right way of inserting the S Pen.

It appears that Samsung has now taken a concrete step to ensure that users don’t end up killing the pen detection feature on their phablet by inserting the S Pen the other way around. A new report points out that Samsung is producing new circuit boards that have a safer detection mechanism, the greyish white tab on the new circuit boards appears to have been designed to allow safe ejection of an S Pen inserted backwards without damaging the pen detection feature. From the looks of it, the fix involved adding an external cap piece over the original design and according to the source mentioned in the report, this little change makes a significant difference.

You’re still out of luck though if you purchase the Galaxy Note 5 before this change was made, and since Samsung hasn’t really made this change with much fanfare, it really can’t be said for sure from when it has been shipping units with the new circuit boards. Continue to exercise caution and common sense when ejecting and inserting the S Pen in the Galaxy Note 5.

LED View Cover cases for Galaxy S7 and S7 edge get certified

We had just reported that dual-SIM variants of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge have received certifications in Indonesia, but there’s more news about these flagship devices. A new type of official case for these upcoming high-end smartphones have been certified in the US.

Samsung has received certifications for LED View Cover cases for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. The case for the Galaxy S7 bears the model number EF-NG930, while the LED View Cover for the Galaxy S7 edge bears the model number EF-NG935. We are not sure what LED View Cover exactly means, but these flip cases might be something like HTC’s Dot View Cases.

The South Korean smartphone giant might announce these cases along with some other official accessories for the Galaxy S7 and the S7 edge during its press conference at MWC 2016, which is set to happen in the last week of February.

Dual SIM variant of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge pass certification in Indonesia

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge – and possibly a Galaxy S7 edge+ – will go official in the next few weeks, so it is only natural the devices are going through all the certification checks they can before Samsung can start selling them. Recently, the dual SIM variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge were certified in Indonesia, with model numbers SM-G930FD and SM-G935FD accompanying the devices.

This is basically a confirmation that Samsung’s upcoming flagships will be offered in dual SIM varieties, confirmation that we didn’t actually need. But given the launch of the dual SIM Galaxy Note 5 in India this week, it’s possible Samsung will start making dual SIM flagships available in more markets than it currently does starting with the Galaxy S7, which is sure to make a lot of people happy.

The rumored Galaxy S7 edge+ didn’t pass the same certification, which points to two possibilities – either the S7 edge+ won’t have a dual SIM variant, or it will not be launching even with a single SIM slot, at least not with the S7 and S7 edge. Either way, if you like to buy dual SIM flagships, you can rest assured Samsung won’t be taking away the option with the Galaxy S7, at least if you reside in one of the countries where Samsung regularly launches top-of-the-line smartphones with two SIM slots.

Samsung launches the Galaxy Note 5 Dual SIM in India

Soon after announcing its plans to launch the dual SIM variant of the Galaxy Note 5 in India, Samsung has made the device available in the country though its official online store. Indian consumers can purchase the 32GB model of the Galaxy Note 5 Dual SIM for Rs. 51,400 (around $760) in black, silver and gold, with Samsung offering credit card deals like it does on all flagships in the country. The 64GB version isn’t available yet, but it should go up for sale in the coming days.

Samsung is somewhat late to the market with the dual SIM Note 5, as companies like Sony and LG have been offering their flagships with dual SIM slots as the default model for some time now. But better late than never is probably what the Korean giant is thinking, and given the popularity of dual SIM devices in India, it’s good to see Samsung is finally taking the steps to cater to consumers who want a top-of-the-line smartphone with the ability to power two SIM cards.

The specs of the dual SIM Galaxy Note 5 remain the same as the regular variant. The phone comes with a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 7420 processor, 4GB of RAM, a fingerprint sensor, and a 16-megapixel rear camera. There’s also a 5-megapixel front camera, 4G LTE connectivity, heart rate scanner, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, and is set to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow sometime this year.
