Sprint is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy Note 4 today, the carrier’s shouldn’t keep their fingers crossed for Android 5.1. That’s not what today’s update is about, it merely adds a feature that was removed from the initial Lollipop build that was released for Samsung’s devices. The factory reset protection feature finally comes to the Sprint Galaxy Note 4 through this software update.
As the name suggests this feature adds an extra layer of protection before a device can wipe itself clean. This feature was part of Lollipop but it wasn’t included in the Lollipop update that was originally released for devices like the Galaxy Note 4, which is why Sprint is sending it out through another OTA update. When the feature is enabled the device won’t wipe itself clean before a passkey is entered, this will stop thieves from simply wiping stolen devices and later selling them to some unwitting buyer. Software version N910PVPU2BOE1 is being rolled out by Sprint today for the Galaxy Note 4 and it also features bug fixes aside from the factory reset protection feature.
