There’s a new report out today which claims that Samsung will soon release a software update for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge in Korea which is going to flip the switch on LTE-X, through the update it will bring Multipath TCP simultaneous network transmission technology to the handsets allowing data transfer speeds to reach as high as 1.17Gbps, speeds that conventional LTE networks can’t even reach.
Multipath TCP radically increases the data transfer speed as it brings together both the 300Mbps Cat.6 LTE network and the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network at the same time, allowing theoretical speeds to reach up to 1.17Gbps. However in real life scenarios the speeds are expected to vary between 300 – 400Mbps which itself is up to four times faster than conventional LTE. Samsung is reportedly going to release this firmware update in Korea within two weeks as the country’s carriers gear up to support LTE-X. The company hasn’t said if this update will be provided in other regions as well, then again, it’s not like carrier support for this feature is widely common at this point in time.
