Samsung reportedly pledged $50 million to have James Bond use its smartphones in Spectre

Samsung isn’t shy of spending an insane amount of money when it comes to marketing and promotion, it’s tendency to spend so much is often attributed to the rise in popularity of its smartphones against rivals in the market. Only recently it was reported that the company has inked a promotion deal for Rihanna’s upcoming album and world tour to the tune of $25 million and now it has been revealed that the company even tried buying some screen time in the latest James Bond movie.

The Korean company is no stranger to the big screen, it’s partnership with Marvel has seen many Samsung devices get screen time in blockbuster movies, but to get its five seconds of fame in a Bond film the company would have had to take Sony’s place which has been a regular in the Bond films starring Daniel Craig. As the studio and Sony were negotiating a commitment worth $18 million Samsung reportedly tried to buy its way in with a $5 million fee just for its smartphones to appear in the movie aside from a $50 million budget meant purely for marketing purposes. Even though it was offering much more than Sony was it appears that actor Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond, and Spectre director Sam Mendes weren’t convinced that a Samsung phone is one that Bond would use because the secret agent “only uses the best.” It’s reported that this same objection was raised by the duo with regards to the Sony Xperia Z4, the handset that Sony was trying to get Bond to use in the new movie. Spectre arrives November 6 and only then will we really find out what Bond’s preferred smartphone brand is.
