We already know Samsung is working on the Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016), successors to two of its best budget smartphones. Quite a few leaks in recent weeks have given us information on both handsets, and the phones have now appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website. They were submitted for certification in early January, and the Bluetooth SIG listing is simply another confirmation that new versions of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 are on the way.
The original J5 and J7 were launched in June last year, so it should be a couple of months before Samsung announces their sequels. In terms of specifications, the Galaxy J5 (2016) should feature a 5.2-inch 720p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 410 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, and 16GB of internal storage. The Galaxy J7 (2016)’s specs should include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2/3GB of RAM, and possibly a 4,300 mAh battery. It will be powered by either a Snapdragon octa-core chip or Samsung’s new Exynos 7870 processor, and could also feature a fingerprint sensor.
On the software front, we have seen the new J5 and J7 with both Android 5.1.1 and Android 6.0.1 in benchmarks, though their expected launch time frame (around the middle of the year if Samsung follows regular routine) means Android 6.0 is pretty much a guarantee. We will be on the lookout for more details on these handsets and continue to update you with anything we find.
