Samsung wants to feel young again, to ditch the corporate bore and become a trendy startup

A rather interesting report has surfaced today claiming that Samsung wants to make substantial changes to the way it operates. Now that’s not going to be an easy task since it’s a massive company with more than 300,000 employees. Reuters reports that Samsung executives are planning to put their names to a pledge to move the company away from its traditional corporate structure towards a more open environment, one that would feel startup-like. The changes that they’re trying to make include reducing levels of staff hierarchy, taking more internal discussions online and cutting down on extra meetings, relaxing dress codes on the weekends, reducing overtime and encouraging employees to spend more time with their families or to pursue further education.

“We aim to reform our internal culture, execute as quickly as a startup company and push towards open communication and continuously innovate,” the company said in a statement. Clearly the aim here is to cut down on the corporate bore and speed things up. Analysts think that this new idea of working more like a startup can prove to be a double-edged sword and that Samsung could lose its edge as a fast-execution hardware company. Samsung will be hoping that these changes enable it to move on products quickly but it remains to be seen if it’s successfully able to implement these changes in a company with a global headcount well over 300,000.
