Earlier this year the Samsung Group announced that it was looking to discover new avenues for growth and it confirmed that a new team was being set up to grow its automotive-related business. The company then modified a race track it owns to test its autonomous cars and also teamed up with SEAT and SAP to develop future projects for connected cars. It’s now establishing partnerships with German automakers to improve its position in the smart car market.
As a result of this partnership, Mercedes-Benz is going to install the Gear VR and Gear 360 Camera in main exhibitions and even provide virtual test driving environments while it has already confirmed in the past that it’s working with Samsung on infotainment. BMW has previously worked with Samsung as well and the partnership extends to the former’s 2017 i3 electric car which gets an increased driving range courtesy of Samsung SDI’s battery technology. SmartThings is baked inside the car to connect it to other smart devices in the home and BMW is already using Samsung-made tablets for the new 7 series. Samsung is also working with Audi by supplying it with 20nm LPDDR4 D-RAM and 10nm eMMC products for its vehicles.
