Samsung reportedly sees a drop in DRAM sales

A new report out of Korea suggests that Samsung has seen a drop of 16.6 percent in DRAM sales in the first quarter of this year. The company’s sales have reportedly dropped by 16.6 percent to 3.9 billion won ($3.36 million). The fall of DRAM price is said to be a major reason for this decline as both DDR3 and DDR4 hit record lows of $1.25 and $1.31 respectively just last month.

Even though the sales drop has hurt companies, Korea remained the first position in the global DRAM market by accounting for 74.4 percent of the market. As the price of DRAM started to fall companies like Samsung and SK hynix slowed down supply and manufacturers changed their DRAM investment plans to reduce the possibility of oversupply. Analysts now expect DRAM price to rebound owing to their greater use in smartphones.
