Samsung and rock band Biffy Clyro team up for ‘Hypercube’ VR tour

Samsung has created a “Hypercube” that’s going to tour music festivals in the United Kingdom and enable attendees to watch a virtual reality performance by Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro. The multi-storey Hypercube welcomes 50 people at a time, they will strap on a Gear VR headset and would then be virtually transported to a suspended glass box where fireworks and pyrotechnics go off as Biffy Clyro plays its song Flammable. Festivalgoers will feel as if they are standing behind frontman Simon Neil and other members of the band.

Biffy Clyro has become the first band in the United Kingdom to release a virtual reality music video. The performance was filmed using 360-degree cameras and provides such an immersive experience that festivalgoers will be able to “feel the sweat flying off the trio.” This VR experience is the work of Samsung creative director Ross Cairns who said that the project was created out of a desire to “bring the best parts of live music to an audience so people can feel closer to the band than ever before.” Samsung’s Hypercube will be touring Boardmasters, Glasgow Summer Sessions and Bestival festivals throughout August and September.
