Samsung confirmed last year that despite the failure that it suffered with the Galaxy Note 7 it was going to launch a new phablet in 2017. Since then, we’ve often heard rumors about the Galaxy Note 8 and now we have a prediction from renowned KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who is normally known for his predictions about Apple’s products.
Kuo claims that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to be Samsung’s first smartphone with a dual camera system on the back, going so far as to call it the “most important upgrade” in the Galaxy Note 8. The analyst also predicts that the dual cameras will feature 3x optical zoom, 12-megapixel wide-angle CIS supporting dual photodiode (2PD), 13MP telephoto CIS, dual 6P lenses and dual Optical Image Stabilization.
He even claims that the Galaxy Note 8′s dual camera system is going to be “much better than that of the iPhone 7 Plus” and may even match the one Apple opts for the OLED iPhone that it’s due to launch later this year.
It’s not surprising to see that Kuo is making this prediction given that the Galaxy S8 was also expected to feature a dual camera system at one point in time. We even saw images of a Galaxy S8+ prototype recently which featured a dual camera system on the back.
Samsung did patent a thinner dual camera system recently which revealed that the company is interested in making its own dual camera system so it remains a possibility that we might see it in the Galaxy Note 8. It’s not set it stone just yet but it’s not impossible either.
