Samsung Pay gets support for HSBC and M&S Bank cards in the United Kingdom

Samsung took its sweet time in bringing Samsung Pay to the United Kingdom. The company has expanded its mobile payments service to a handful of new markets across the globe over the past week. Not too long ago, it finally flipped the switch on Samsung Pay for customers in the United Kingdom as well.

The company may have already conceded a lot of ground to rival payment services like Android Pay and Apple Pay. Both services have long been available in the United Kingdom. Samsung Pay itself was launched over two years ago in South Korea so its UK launch was long overdue.

Samsung Pay still doesn’t support some of the top financial institutions in the country, including Barclays and Llyods Bank. However, it’s expanding its reach to more potential customers by adding support for bank cards issued by HSBC, M&S Bank, and First Direct.

Users who have a card from the issues mentioned above can now use Samsung Pay to make payments on the go. Samsung Pay is currently supported on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S6 series in the United Kingdom.

Samsung is also adding support to the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A7 (2016) via a software update. Samsung Pay will be supported on additional Samsung handsets “in the coming months.”
