Samsung could release the Galaxy S9 a little earlier than expected, according to a reliable tipster, who expects it to be unveiled ahead of Mobile World Congress in February, though the same rumor makes the rounds every year—so best take it with a pinch of salt.
That’s not to say it doesn’t seem feasible, though. It was recently reported that the Galaxy S9 could mass production as soon as next month. If that turns out to be the case, there’s a chance it will hit the shelves by the time Mobile World Congress comes around.
The tipster also noted that Samsung has copied some of the iPhone X’s “tricks” for the Galaxy S9. We don’t know exactly what the source is referring to, but we’d bet our bottom dollar it has something to do with a complex face recognition feature that can rival Apple’s Face ID.
February technically won’t be an early launch
If the Galaxy S9 is announced before Mobile World Congress, it technically won’t be an early launch; both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 were unveiled ahead of the conference. It’s only the Galaxy S8 that was unveiled a little later, because Samsung was dealing with the Galaxy Note 7 disaster.
