We reported last week that Samsung had released the May 2018 security patch update for one of its smartphones even before the company itself or even Google had announced what was included in this latest security maintenance release. This isn’t the first time that something like this happened, though. Nevertheless, Samsung today officially detailed the May 2018 security patch so now we know exactly what the latest security update for Samsung devices brings.
May 2018 security patch
Samsung will now start rolling out a security update as part of its monthly security maintenance release process. The patch brings fixes from both Google and Samsung. All of the patches that Google has included in its Android Security Bulletin – May 2018 package are present in this release.
These include fixes for six critical vulnerabilities discovered in the Android operating system as well as dozens of high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities. Fixes for 7 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures items or vulnerabilities that were discovered in Samsung’s own software are included as well.
Now that the company has detailed the latest security maintenance release for compatible devices, it can get down to the business of actually rolling out the updates. The process will be carried out throughout the month of May so it may be a while before your handset gets the May 2018 security patch.
Samsung has developed a habit recently of releasing the latest security patch for mid-range devices first. It has already released said patch for the Galaxy J2 Pro in Bangladesh and we can expect other mid-range devices to be the first to get the latest patch.
We’ll update you in the coming days when the first firmware with the May 2018 security patch become available.
