Samsung’s fixed 5G router receives FCC certification

Samsung has been working with many carriers around the world to bring 5G to market. The company plans to become a dominant player in the 5G market by providing end-to-end solutions to its partners. In the US, the company has joined hands with Verizon to conduct various field trials before the commercial launch of the 5G services by the operator.

Verizon will use Samsung’s 5G solutions

Bringing the commercial deployment of 5G one step closer, Samsung’s indoor fixed 5G router has received the FCC certification. Though Verizon has not commented, a Samsung spokesperson has confirmed to Telecompetitor that this router will be used in the deployment of fixed 5G in Sacramento – Verizon’s first 5G market. The carrier plans to deploy fixed 5G initially before moving to the mobile services.

Recently, Samsung’s fixed 5G access unit has also received the FCC approval. While the indoor 5G router is a small consumer device for receiving 5G signals in your home, the access unit is an outdoor network equipment for transmitting 5G signals across a large area. With the latest certification, Samsung now has the first 5G millimetre-wave end-to-end solution approved by the FCC.

Mobile 5G services are expected to become a reality next year with the launch of 5G enabled devices and supported networks. Being the largest chip maker and smartphone vendor, Samsung sees a huge opportunity to become a dominant force in the 5G space. The company has been focusing on offering end-to-end solutions to the carriers and customers to seize the opportunity.
