We have seen Samsung releasing the security patch for a new month even before it breaks down everything that the patch fixes. The December patch will be the last of the Samsung monthly updates for 2019. It has already been rolled out for some devices like the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy A50.
Samsung has now detailed the December 2019 security patch. As expected, it brings all of the fixes that Google has made for the core Android OS. There are also some fixes for Samsung’s own software.
Samsung has already released the December 2019 security patch
The December 2019 security patch fixes six critical vulnerabilities in the Android OS. That’s in addition to over two dozen high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities. It also fixes 13 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures that were discovered in the company’s own software.
One such vulnerability exposed the home screen wallpaper when the brightness levels were adjusted on locked devices. Another allowed a connection to any new Bluetooth devices on a locked device. The most severe Android OS vulnerability that this patch fixes could allow a remote attacker to run code on a device in the context of an unprivileged process.
Samsung is now in the process of rolling out the December 2019 security patch for its devices across the globe. It’s going to take a few weeks for this process to complete. However, this won’t be the update that most people will be waiting for. Samsung has also begun rolling out the Android 10 update for the Galaxy S10. Our list shows that it’s already out in almost a dozen countries.
The stable Android 10 update for the Galaxy S10 will also make its way to more markets this month. Samsung is also likely to release this update for the Galaxy Note 10 in the near future. The December 2019 security patch will be present in that firmware update.
