Galaxy Note 9 picks up update with April 2020 security patch

The April 2020 security patch has rolled out to a handful of Galaxy devices in the last week, and it is now making its way to the Galaxy Note 9. Samsung has released a new Galaxy Note 9 update in Germany that bundles the April security patch. The update sports build number N960FXXU5DTCA and should begin rolling out in other markets in the next few days.

For those wondering, this update does not bring One UI 2.1 to Samsung’s 2018 Note flagship. According to the latest available information, Samsung isn’t planning to bring One UI 2.1 to the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy Note 9. That is bound to disappoint many owners of these devices, especially when you consider the fact that One UI 2.1 includes a Pro Video mode for the camera, a feature that was initially available on the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 but was taken away with the One UI 2.0 update.

So, if you own a Galaxy Note 9, you should be prepared for the possibility that you will not be getting any new features on your phone with updates going forward, unless Samsung makes some much-needed changes to its software update policy. Security patches, however, will continue to come out monthly (for the most part) till at least the end of 2021.

You can download the April security update that’s rolling out now directly on your Note 9 by opening its Settings app, navigating to Software update, and selecting Download and install. The latest firmware is also available for immediate download from our firmware archive.
