The number of Samsung employees who tested positive to coronavirus continues to rise as the global pandemic rages on, wreaking havoc in communities and the global business landscape.
In recent days, the company has been dealing with isolated COVID-19 cases within its ranks, implementing various precautions and emergency measures to navigate through the crisis.
Samsung not shutting down any more branches following new cases
The chaebol has now confirmed two of its staffers who were in Brazil since January tested positive for COVID-19 following their Monday return to South Korea. No new operations will be suspended in light of the development because both employees were already in self-isolation, in accordance with emergency company policy.
One Samsung official already contracted the new coronavirus strain in Brazil. In response to the outbreak in the South American country, the smartphone giant already shut down operations at its factories in Manaus and Campinas, Sao Paolo. The full effects of those moves are yet to be felt as Samsung is still doing what it can to keep its consumer-facing business chugging along. For example, the firm was even fulfilling Galaxy S20 pre-orders in Brazil earlier than promised so as to avoid contributing to the spread of the virus while still launching its newest Android flagships.
Just yesterday, Samsung confirmed another COVID-19 case at its semiconductor factory in Austin, Texas. The Seoul-based electronics behemoth also reported that one of its workers was infected on a while visiting Europe on official business.
On the other side of the globe, Samsung Vietnam is still trying to keep things going as per plans in spite of a partial lockdown imposed by the Vietnamese government.
