Samsung donates $1 million in support of Dallas fighting coronavirus

Samsung is making a $1 million donation to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Coronavirus Response & Recovery Fund to support the city’s efforts against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The donation will help address the most immediate and urgent needs of North Texans and the city’s long-term recovery plans.

The fund was established in mid-March and, so far, it has granted over $2 million to 144 organizations fighting against the local outbreak. Samsung has just given us one million more ways to help. We’re humbled by their generosity and support stated Jennifer Sampson, McDermott-Templeton President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

Samsung has numerous facilities and thousands of employees in the Metro Dallas area, and the company plays a vital role in communities in which our employees live and work, said YH Eom, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics America.

Addressing supply shortages, school closures, the economy and more

The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Coronavirus Response & Recovery Fund addresses the immediate needs of North Texas residents. These resources will be used to curb supply shortages of hand sanitizer, paper goods, cleaning products, and potentially food.

The fund is also looking to support schools and childcare programs during their extended closures, as well as the economic impact felt by countless workers in the retail, service, and travel industries.

Samsung’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic extend to numerous countries beyond the USA. The company donated $24.6 million in support of the South Korean government a couple of months back, and only earlier this week it made a $5+ million donation to India.
