Galaxy S10 5G getting May 2020 security patch on Verizon, Sprint

Verizon and Sprint are rolling out a new firmware version to Galaxy S10 5G devices on their networks. The software package contains Samsung’s Android security update for May 2020. The deployment began yesterday, meaning owners of eligible Galaxy S10 5G models should receive an update notification shortly, if they haven’t already. Alternatively, you can download Sprint (G977PVPS4CTD5) and Verizon’s (G977UVRS4CTD5) latest builds from SamMobile’s firmware archive if you’re eager to flash them manually via a Windows PC.

Save for carrier-specific versions of the security patch dated May 1st, 2020, the new software contains no other novelties. As per usual, it’s recommended you download the update over a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure your device is either charging or has plenty of battery life left prior to starting the installation to avoid any potential complications.

Another swift Galaxy S10 5G update from Sprint

The Galaxy S10 5G is currently in its second year of after-sales support, meaning its users have at least one more major Android upgrade to look forward to. Following its merger with T-Mobile, Sprint elevated its support for the device, becoming the first telecom giant in the United States to bring One UI 2.1 to the device back in April.

On the downside, the variants of Samsung’s seminal 5G smartphone bought from Sprint will eventually lose 5G connectivity, precisely because of that very same corporate tie-up, i.e. the infrastructural changes it warrants. In the meantime, T-Mobile’s own Galaxy S10 5G models appear to be an afterthought as they haven’t been updated since mid-March.
