May 2020 security patch reaches unlocked Galaxy Note 9s in the US

The unlocked variants of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 are now in the process of receiving the latest Android security update dated May 1st, 2020. Identified by firmware version number N960U1UES4DTD1, the new software package contains no other additions and should soon become available for download on all eligible devices.

If you haven’t already receieved a notification prompt detailing the update, you can attempt to trigger the installation manually from the Settings app on your Galaxy Note 9. Alternatively, visit SamMobile’s firmware archive to download an image of the May 2020 security update for use with Odin.

Still no One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy Note 9

In the meantime, owners of the unlocked Galaxy Note 9 models are still waiting for their One UI 2.1 update. While Samsung and its carrier partners already pushed out Android 10 to the stylus-equipped smartphone, the device has yet to receive the very latest Android implementation from the manufacturer.

According to report last week, that particular OS upgrade is planned for a June release. Meaning the wait for One UI 2.1 won’t be too long considering Samsung’s developers only started working on this Galaxy Note 9 firmware package last month.

As for the firmware update at hand, the May 2020 security patch began hitting unlocked Galaxy Note 9 variants using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 almost simultaneously with the release of its counterpart intended for the Exynos versions of the smartphone. Likewise, its Galaxy S9-series peers are now receiving the same security improvements as well.
