Galaxy A9 (2018) gets updated to the May 2021 security patch

Samsung has been crushing it in terms of software updates to its smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. No other Android OEM comes even close to what Samsung has pulled off over the past year. In the month of May 2021 alone, the company updated 350 devices (including variants) with new software. Now, the company has released the latest security patch to its 2.5-years-old mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A9 (2018).

The Galaxy A9 (2018) has started getting a new software update in Brazil. The new update, which bears firmware version A920FXXU5CUE1, includes the May 2021 security patch. The new software should now make the Galaxy A9 (2018) more secure and also improve privacy-related aspects of the device. Documentation reveals that the May 2021 security patch includes dozens of fixes from Google and 23 fixes from Samsung.

If you are a Galaxy A9 (2018) user in Brazil, and are eager to install the new software update, you can check for the new firmware by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. Alternatively, if you are an advanced user, and don’t want to wait for the OTA update notification to arrive on your device, you can download the entire firmware file from our database and flash it manually.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A9 (2018) towards the end of 2018 with Android 8.0 Oreo onboard. It received the Android 9-based One UI update in March 2019 and the Android 10-based One UI 2 update in March 2020. The smartphone is currently on Samsung’s biannual update software update schedule.
