Samsung will reportedly supply AMOLED displays to Huawei

A report out of Korea claims that Samsung is looking to diversify the customer base of its display business, Samsung Display is reportedly looking to provide AMOLED displays to Huawei. Currently majority of the AMOLED panels that Samsung Display manufactures are used in the company’s own devices which means that the display business partly relies on the performance of the mobile business to thrive.

The report claims that Samsung Display has started sending samples of AMOLED panels to Huawei and it’s expected that shipment numbers will increase in the coming months. Samsung Display already does business with some Chinese manufacturers like Oppo and Vivo but a partnership of this sort with Huawei will be much more significant primarily because Huawei is the world’s third largest smartphone vendor. Rumor has it that the Samsung-made AMOLED display could find its way to Huawei’s Nexus smartphone which is believed to have a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. It’s not like Samsung doesn’t have a history of providing components to rival manufacturers but the question remains whether the company will have any qualms about providing its latest display technology to Huawei. Since the company hasn’t officially commented on this matter we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
