Stagefright fix for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 released by AT&T

It was only a matter of time before other US carriers followed Sprint’s lead and released the critical Stagefright vulnerability fix for Android devices. Sprint was first carrier to send out this patch for the Galaxy Note 4 and earlier today it released the same update for more Samsung devices. AT&T has followed suit by rolling out over-the-air updates for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Active and the Galaxy Note 4.

The update being rolled out by AT&T doesn’t bring anything other than the “device security enhancement” which ensures that the aforementioned handsets are no longer susceptible to the Stagefright vulnerability. Hackers can use this vulnerability to remotely gain access to a target’s device, steal their data and even commandeer the microphone and camera. The Stagefright scare has forced Samsung to rethink its software update policy, Samsung now promises to release security related updates for its devices at least once per month.
