Galaxy Note 8 finally gets December patch, Secure Wi-Fi and Live Focus improvements in the UK

The unbranded Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F) hasn’t received any new firmware updates in the United Kingdom since September 2017. This means that users have missed out on features like Secure Wi-Fi that were added over the past month. Even the security patch wasn’t updated until today.

Samsung is now rolling out a new firmware update for the unbranded Galaxy Note 8 in the United Kingdom. The update includes the December 2017 security patch, Secure Wi-Fi and improvements for the Live Focus feature.

Galaxy Note 8 December security patch

The latest update for the Galaxy Note 8 in the UK brings the Secure Wi-Fi feature. It’s a VPN service from Samsung that’s not entirely new given that we’ve seen it on some budget Galaxy J handsets in the past. Secure Wi-Fi encrypts all outgoing internet traffic on the device when enabled and also disables apps and websites from tracking the user.

The firmware update also brings improvements for the Galaxy Note 8’s Live Focus feature and we’ve already described them in detail previously. The changes are minor but they go a long way in improving the feature’s performance.

Last but not the least, the December 2017 security patch is included in this firmware update for the Galaxy Note 8.

Samsung is now rolling out firmware version N950FXXU2BQKG for the unbranded Galaxy Note 8 in the United Kingdom. We hear that the update is only available over SmartSwitch right now and isn’t rolling out over-the-air just yet. We do have it available for download in our firmware section. It weighs in at a hefty 3.7GB.
