Samsung has started rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update to the Galaxy Xcover 4 in a number of Asian countries. The Xcover 4 is one of few devices that have been updated to Android 8.1 and not Android 8.0, but the list of such devices should increase in the coming weeks. The Galaxy Xcover 4 Oreo update is currently available in Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Galaxy Xcover 4 makes the jump to Android 8.1 Oreo
The Xcover 4 Oreo update includes the August 2018 security patch (the Galaxy J5 (2017), meanwhile, got the September patch with the Android 8.1 update today). It will also have version 9.5 of the Samsung Experience UX, same as the Galaxy Note 9. The number of new features, however, will be fewer for the Xcover 4 since it’s a budget phone. To see what these features and changes are, you can take a look at our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo articles.
If you’re in one of the countries mentioned above, you should be able to download the update over the air from the Settings » Software update menu on your Galaxy Xcover 4. Alternatively, you can download the firmware from our website and upgrade using your laptop or desktop computer. Should you notice anything new or different after updating, or are getting the update in another country, do let us know in the comments!
