Samsung brought its wearable line under the Galaxy umbrella last year with the Galaxy Watch. It’s now expanding the lineup with a couple of new wearable devices. Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Watch Active and the Galaxy Fit fitness tracker alongside the Galaxy S10 in San Francisco today.
As has been the case for many products unveiled today, even these new wearable devices were thoroughly leaked ahead of their official launch. The Galaxy Watch Active is a fitness-focused smartwatch that takes the baton from the Gear Sport while the Galaxy Fit’s purpose is pretty self-explanatory.
Galaxy Watch Active specs and features
As expected, the Galaxy Watch Active features a 1.1-inch 360×360 Full Color display with an Exynos 9110 Dual-core 1.15GHz processor. There’s also 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Watch Active features a 230mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.2, MIL-STD-810G + IP68 rating and interchangeable straps. It’s powered by Tizen OS 4.0 and comes in Silver, Black, Rose Gold and Sea Green colors.
The rotating bezel is a casualty of its thin and light design, something that was quite loved by fans on earlier Samsung smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch Active has sleep, stress, exercise and health tracking features. Blood Pressure Monitoring is new to the Galaxy wearable lineup with this smartwatch while the Stress Tracker will keep stress levels in check. The smartwatch is capable of auto-detecting workouts as well. Bixby’s voice capabilities mean that the Galaxy Watch Active can be controlled using voice commands.
Galaxy Fit specs and features
The Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e are new fitness trackers from Samsung. They’re aimed at all types of fitness enthusiasts, from casual runners to serious athletes. Both enable easy tracking of fitness activities such as running, biking, rowing and more. Users can also manually select from more than 90 different activities in the Samsung Health app on their smartphone and the tracker will automatically start to log the chosen workout.
They also provide enhanced sleep monitoring and smart stress management. The Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e have a simple UX which also enables users to receive alerts and messages without having to touch their phone. The Galaxy Fit will also display a dual clock watch face automatically when the user travels to a new time zone. Both the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e are water resistant up to 5ATM so they can be worn in the pool.
The major differences include a slightly larger 0.95-inch Full Color AMOLED display on the Galaxy Fit instead of the 0.74-inch PMOLED display on the Galaxy Fit e. The former will be available in Black and Silver while the latter will be offered in Black, White and Yellow colors. There’s a 120mAh and 70mAh battery on the Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e, respectively, while the Galaxy Fit also has NFC onboard. Both are built to the MIL-STD-810G durability standard.
