Samsung has confirmed yesterday that you will be able to buy Galaxy Fold from April 26. The company’s foldable smartphone is just around the corner and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. You may have to switch carriers in the United States if you’re not on AT&T or T-Mobile.
It seems that the foldable smartphone will only be offered through these carriers. Those who subscribe to Verizon or Sprint appear to be out of luck. Samsung would sell the Galaxy Fold unlocked so if you’re willing to spend almost $2,000 outright, it will happily let you.
Won’t be possible to buy Galaxy Fold from Verizon or Sprint
Samsung has only said that customers in the United States will be able to buy Galaxy Fold from AT&T and T-Mobile. It didn’t mention Verizon or Sprint which suggests that these two carriers may not get the device.
Whether or not the Galaxy Fold will work on these carriers remains to be seen, since customers can bring their own devices to the carriers. However, it’s pertinent to note that both Verizon and Sprint rely on different mobile technology for 3G networks and it’s quite possible that the Fold doesn’t have support for it.
Verizon subscribers don’t have much to be sad about, though. The carrier is getting an exclusive on the Galaxy S10 5G. While this variant will be available from other carriers, Verizon will be the first to sell it in the United States.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold goes on sale come April 26. Prices start at $1,980. Samsung has confirmed our earlier exclusive that there’s going to be a 5G variant of the Galaxy Fold as well. It’s going to cost more and will be available later this year.
