Galaxy Fold is set to display more natural colors by default

Samsung makes amazing smartphone displays and has been doing so for a few years now. No one was surprised when the folks over at DisplayMate called the Galaxy S10’s display the best there is, and Samsung has been particularly praised for working on color accuracy in recent years. And with the Galaxy S10, Samsung, for the first time, made the more color accurate screen mode the default setting, and we can confirm that is the case with the Galaxy Fold as well.

With the Galaxy S10, Samsung replaced the four screen modes (Adaptive, AMOLED Cinema, AMOLED Photo, and Basic) from its earlier phones with just two options: Vivid and Natural. Before the S10, Galaxy devices with AMOLED displays were always set to Adaptive out of the box, with Basic being the equivalent to Natural mode. The Galaxy S10’s display has very high color accuracy in both modes, and as a result, the difference between Vivid and Natural isn’t as big as one would expect.

In fact, unless one goes looking for that difference, it’s pretty much impossible to know that the default screen mode isn’t at the vivid setting. The Galaxy Fold’s displays are similarly attractive out of the box despite being on the Natural screen mode. Vivid mode still makes for slightly higher color saturation, though, and it can also be customized to have warmer or cooler white balance. The Natural mode isn’t customizable, but again, this is not something that will worry most consumers in any way.
